Amateur Radio and me, Shari.. AL7FJ

Amateur Radio has been my favorite hobby, and I do have quite a few others.
I received my novice ticket in January 1977. Morse Code
came easy for me and I enjoyed 11 months on the air as a
novice. I worked all states and all continents during that time.

It took me three tries, but I finally upgraded to General
class in December of 1977. That is when it became even
more exciting. I was living in Texas at the time and propagation
was great.  I worked all states again, worked all
continents and also worked all countries.  At that time, 100
countries was the magic number.

I soon found out that I loved working ten meters, so I got a ten-ten number
and proceeded to work someone in every
state with a ten-ten number. DX'ing was my greatest thrill
and I decided to go for 100 hundred countries on ten
meters. That was so much fun.
While living in Texas I was also heavily involved in
public service using amateur radio.

Then I moved to Mississippi and worked all states from
that location, plus worked all countries again. It was in Ms.
that I took my advanced class test and passed it the first
time. Imagine that!

After Ms. I moved to Alaska where I was involved in
the Iditarod (another page), and once again I worked all
states and countries and continents from here.
It has been a wonderful hobby. I have met so many truly
wonderful people and been involved in so many things, I
can't begin to list them here.

If you have ever thought of getting into the hobby, I urge
you to do it. There is something for everyone....slow scan
TV, packet radio, contesting and dx'ing, just to name a
few.
