Alaska Scenes

No pictures of Alaska would be complete without a picture of a moose. This little guy was hungry and we made the mistake of giving him apples. It really is dangerous to feed the wildlife, so we quit doing that.

The next picture is so picturesque, don't you think? It is a picture of Seldovia, which you can only get to by boat or air.  It is very near Homer, AK. We took a ferry to see this beautiful place. It was wonderful.

I have also included another picture of Iditarod. This one was taken in Wasilla, AK. which is the home of Iditarod and where the race re-starts each year, if there is enough snow. If there isn't enough snow they sometimes re-start the race in Willow, about 25 miles north of Wasilla, or even at Big Lake, which I love because I can set on my dock and watch them go by!

~  KNOWN ALASKAN FACTS  ~

You know you're from Alaska when.....
You've never met any celebrities.

Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting
to pass a camper on the highway.

"Vacation" means driving to Chitina to dip net.

You've seen all the big bands ten years after they
were popular.

You measure distance in hours.

You know several people who have hit a moose.

Your school classes aren't cancelled because of cold.

You've ridden the school bus for an hour each way.

You've never had to switch from heat to A/C
in the same day.

The last thing you do before going to bed is to
plug in your vehicle.

You see people wear bib overalls at funerals.

You see a car running in the parking lot at the
store with no one in it, no matter what time of year.

You think of the four major food groups as moose,
caribou, beer and squaw candy.

You carry jumper cables and a blanket in your car.

You design your kids Halloween costumes to fit
over a snowsuit.

Driving is better in winter because the potholes
are filled with snow.

You think everyone from a bigger city has an accent.

You think sexy lingerie is tube socks and a flannel
nightie.

The local paper covers national and international
news on one page but requires 6 pages for sports.

You think that moose season is a national holiday.

You know which leaves make good toilet paper.

You find -20 degrees F "a bit chilly".

I Truly Love Alaska!

I love Alaska
I do, yes I do
You could love Alaska
It is calling you

It's arms are outstretched
And opened wide
Come and enjoy it
And be by my side

You'll love the great mountains
And its rivers so wide
A mixture of cultures
In a land unified

I'll wait for your visit
I hope, someday soon
December's a good time
Or even in June

But whatever the month
Whatever the time
I know you'll find Alaska
Is one of a kind.
